What is noni fruit?

Noni fruit is the fruit of the noni tree (also known as the Clam tree, or Mountain Noni, Giau), a tree of the coffee family, with a small, upright woody trunk. Grown mainly in the South and some Central provinces.

Many parts of the noni plant such as roots, leaves, fruits… are often used in Oriental medicine to support the treatment of diseases. The most commonly used fruit is still noni fruit.

A mature noni tree can produce rows of fresh noni fruit. Therefore, currently there are many functional foods and nutritious drinks extracted from this precious fruit.

What is noni fruit?

Young Noni fruit (also known as Noni fruit) is light green, 5 – 7cm long, 3 – 4cm wide, and when mature, it can be as big as an adult’s fist. The fruit is fleshy, egg-shaped, and consists of many nuts stuck together. When ripe, it is yellow and shiny, containing soft, edible rice. The smell is quite strong and spicy, and there are traces of honey discs on the fruit. Can noni fruit be eaten raw?

Currently, noni fruit can be eaten raw without having to be soaked or juiced. However, to eat raw, you need to choose noni fruits that are ripe, yellow, fresh, firm, and not soft and bruised. Before using, you need to soak the noni fruit in salt water to remove bacteria and dirt from the outer shell.

What does noni fruit taste like?

Noni fruit is considered a valuable medicine that helps cure many diseases. This fruit has an astringent, pungent taste and a rather pungent smell. That’s why even though noni can be eaten raw, not everyone can eat it.
