Is diabetes dangerous?

Most women with gestational diabetes give birth to healthy babies. However, pregnant mothers still need to learn about the complications of the disease to prevent unpredictable risks for themselves and their babies.

Complications in the baby that can occur from gestational diabetes include:

Excessive growth (fetal macrosomia) leads to difficulty in normal birth, increasing the risk of cesarean section

Low blood sugar (Neonatal hypoglycemia)

There is a risk of type 2 diabetes as an adult

Dead

Maternal complications may also occur, including:

Preeclampsia

Gestational diabetes in subsequent pregnancies
